The ancient Arameans were polytheists who believed and worshipped many deities such as Rimmon, Shamash, Nergal, Marduk, and Atar, along with other Middle Eastern deities.

It's believed that the first known Aramean who converted to Judaism was Naaman the Syrian after being healed by the God of Israel through Prophet Elisha in the Old Testament.

In the first century, the Arameans and the Hebrews in Israel began to accept the Gospel and became Christians quite rapidly as the message of Jesus spread into Israel, Aram, and Aram-Naharaim. After the death och Jesus, the Christian community was established in Jerusalem, but later expanded into Aram, specifically Antioch, Damascus, and Urhoy.
